Phoenix Jones – Seattle’s Vigilante Superhero

The masked vigilante named Phoenix Jones walks to the streets of Seattle looking for instances of crime.  He just didn’t wake up one morning and decide to do this.  Something happened to him (like many other fictional super heroes) that made him become the masked vigilante that he is today.

Phoenix Jones tells of a story where his vehicle was broken into and his child was hurt as a result.  Upset that police couldn’t do anything about the crime and his insurance wouldn’t cover the damages to his vehicle, he decided to take things into his own hands.  Jones waited for many days in the area where his vehicle had been broken into until one day he spotted the criminal that had broken into his vehicle.  He chased the man into the wood and eventually caught him.  He states he gave the criminal a “firm talking to.”

Fast forward a bit and Phoenix Jones begins getting noticed on the street which made him feel uncomfortable.  This was before his super hero name and before the mask.  As a result of getting noticed and some initial fear of retaliation to him or his family he decided to wear a mask.

He says he will keep the suit on and continue to fight crime until he does that one special thing that identifies him as a true superhero.  He believes until that time he will just be that crazy guy walking the streets with a mask on and fighting crime.

In July of 2013 the Telegraph interviewed Phoenix Jones and Purple Reign.  What was interesting about the interview was how they didn’t want to be classified as vigilantes as if it was a dirty word.  They wanted to be identified as law abiding citizens who know when to intervene and when not to.  Sounded very familiar to that of the Anti-Horse Thief Association in the 1800’s, this isn’t a bad thing.

Ben Fodor is Phoenix Jones’s real name.  If this name sound familiar it is because he is an amateur MMA fighter with an 11-0 record. He also has a brother named Caros Fodor who is associated with Strikeforce.

 

Phoenix Jones Super Suit and Gadgets

Phoenix Jones wears a piece of flexible D3 armor that gives him the ability to move without much hindrance.  The outer cover protects him from knives and strikes to some degree.  Under the outer cover he wears a bullet proof vest.  The protection expands to his upper and lower legs.

Gadgets

There really aren’t any fancy gadgets that Phoenix Jones uses.  Jones mainly uses a cell phone and video camera as he knows his role on the streets of Seattle.  He does carry pepper spray which he has used on occasion.  In one video Jones sprays several individuals who were attacking his friends and then attempting to attack him.  Pepper spray is a very safe alternative to other more lethal forms of self defense.

Phoenix Jones Injuries

In interviews Jones shares how he has been shot twice, stabbed a few times, he has broken a few ribs and has had his nose broken as well.  He also states that he would rather be shot or stabbed with special gear on rather than an innocent individual being shot without anything to protect them.

What Does He Do?

Phoenix Jones is more than just a guy that breaks up fights or tries to interfere with a crime in progress.  He helps those in need, stands for something good, and partners up with others that have a cause worth supporting.

If a crime is witnessed Phoenix will call the police, make sure the victim is ok and then chase after and catch the criminal.  Once the criminal has been caught, Jones will hold him down until the authorities arrive.  Then all the video documentation is shown to law enforcement as evidence against the individual that has been detained.

Who Should You be Worried About?

Well don’t worry about Phoenix, he has his act together.  Jones is basically a professional fighter though he only uses his fighting skills when he has to. Worry about those that follow him on the streets and videotape what takes place at night.  Those are the individual that don’t know how to defend themselves (at least it would appear).    In fact I don’t think I have seen any video footage of anyone involved in the Rain City Superhero Movement get involved in an altercation other than Jones.  I think many like the idea of dressing up like a superhero but lack the physical skills or bravery to place themselves in the mix of an altercation.

Jones appears to have a good heart which is expressed in a way that many can appreciate.  Many times you will see video of him breaking up fights outside of bars.  Because he has become so well known many will try to take pictures with him while others wish to test their manhood by trying to fight him. Below is a video where a guy just wouldn’t let up and kept taunting Jones until Jones finally fought him (under the supervision of the Seattle Police Department).

Jones is one person that is doing what many of us do already without wearing a mask and what we all need to keep doing.  We need to keep our streets safe because the police can’t be everywhere at once.  We need to be vigilant in reporting crimes and we need to applaud those who go above and beyond like Jones does with his crew as he tries to make a difference.
